About Us...

Founded by Carmen Ching-man Lo, former senior actor/director of Chung Ying Theatre Company. Lo obtained a Master degree in Philosophy and was a Film and Video major in Columbia College, Chicago.

The Company has been operated by a model of non-profit making theatre troupe. The name of the Company indicates that cinematic language does take an important role in shaping the theatrical style of the productions. The Company mainly focuses on original works which explore the horizons and soul of modern people, especially for young audience. The elements of intertwining imagination and reality plus the past and the present, is also one of the phenomenal characteristics of the works of the Company. 

Moreover, the Company takes the initiative to explore overseas cultural exchange opportunities. Since 2003, productions have been toured in Scotland, Adelaide, Seoul, Yokohama, Singapore, Shanghai, Taipei, the Philippines, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Macau. 

Recent productions My Luxurious 50 Sqft Life won Best Performance, Best Play, and Best Stage Effect at the 2015 Hong Kong Theatre Libre; My Luxurious 50 Sqft Life and Informer both awarded the Top Ten Most Popular Productions at the Hong Kong Drama Awards 2015.

Since 2007 till now, Cinematic Theatre Company has been offered Year Grant from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and also the Multi-project Grant for the project of ‘Young Playwrights Scheme’. In 2009, the Company was offered the grant from Drama Devolved Grant Scheme for Emerging Artists for organizing ‘The HK Little Theatre Fest’.

My Luxurious 50 Sqft Life won Best Performance, Best Play, and Best Stage Effect at the 2015 Hong Kong Theatre Libre; My Luxurious 50 Sqft Life and Informer both awarded the Top Ten Most Popular Productions at the Hong Kong Drama Awards 2015.

The production has been toured in Scotland, Taipei, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The Feast reveals the real situation of the world about the issue of “food”.  Combining installation, live video, multi-media theatre & interactions with the audience, “The Feast” will show you what we are eating with different angles.

The production has been toured in Adelaide.

Watching U... 

is a moving yet intriguing love story that profoundly investigates real-self via an experimental study. 

The production was nominated the Best Stage Effect at the 2016 Hong Kong Theatre Libre; and Best Stage Design at the 2016 IATC Awards.

The production has been toured in Seoul and Yokohama.

Someone Else (Hong Kong Version) presented by The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), is a Autoteatro’ performance in collaboration with acclaimed British theatre maker Ant Hampton and local theatre company Cinematic Theatre. The audience for Someone Else (Hong Kong Version) is invited to be part of the performance, and to interact with strangers so as to rethink the social isolation of urban dwellers.
